Support Mental Health Awareness Month with INIC Preschool Austin & Round Rock: Donate to Austin Child Guidance Center Today!

Austin Child Guidance Center is located at 810 W. 45th Street, Austin, TX 78751

Texas ranks near the bottom for youths with “higher prevalence of mental illness and lower rates of access to care,” according to the recent Mental Health America 2023 Report.

Austin Child Guidance Center ensures kids struggling with mental health challenges can access the best possible care, regardless of their ability to pay. ACGC has a highly-trained staff of social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and case managers. They help kids under 18 years old, including young children 0-5 years old.

ACGC is seeing the following trends among children, which is why they need your help right now.

  • Anxiety and depression are rising.

  • Child overdoses are up.

  • Texas has a shortage of mental health workers.

  • In Texas, over 19% of children have experienced two or more stressful or traumatic events before their 18th birthday.

Healthy social and emotional development begins at a young age, which is why INIC Preschool supports ACGC’s mission and incorporates social emotional readiness within its own early childhood programming.

INIC’s Social Emotional Readiness Program is designed to develop self-awareness, self-expression, self-control, critical thinking, friendship, teamwork, and personal resilience. Here are just a few elements of INIC’s program.

  1. Emotional intelligence, including empathy and self-awareness, can be achieved when children understand their own feelings. They also learn to be aware of classmates’ feelings.

  2. Social intelligence can result from situations that involve more than one child. By learning how to self-regulate and understand the feelings of others, kids can enjoy better relationships. Social cognition is an essential concept at INIC – learning how to foster positive relationships.

  3. Kids learn positive ways to handle difficult situations and feelings, rather than just learning what not to do.

  4. Conflict resolution is learned in a safe and supportive environment, resulting in a strong community and one-on-one relationships.

  5. Sharing is learned by observing teachers and classmates, receiving guidance, and practicing sharing during playtime. With gentle encouragement and positive reinforcement, kids learn to understand its importance and benefits. Sharing in preschool teaches cooperation, empathy, and prepares kids for school and beyond, fostering values like kindness and generosity.

  6. Leadership skills boost independence, teamwork, self-confidence, and a sense of belonging. The Helper of the Day and Give Me Five programs provide leaderships opportunities.

  7. Self confidence grows when kids are able to handle difficult situations.

  8. Friendship is a priceless element of every person’s life. INIC helps very young learners lay the groundwork for healthy relationships and true friendship.

INIC’s Social Emotional Readiness Program is committed to building the foundations for wellness while promoting a positive and inclusive preschool experience.

Thank you for supporting Austin Child Guidance Center’s mission to provide mental health services for children and their families.
